What's Included
Before any part is powder coated or painted, it needs proper surface preparation — without it, coatings can fail prematurely through poor adhesion, blistering, or corrosion breaking through from underneath the finish. Surface contaminants like mill scale, light rust, oils, and handling residue all interfere with how well a coating bonds to the base metal, and a coating applied over an improperly prepared surface will typically fail well before its expected service life.
Our dip tank and phosphating line addresses this through a 5-stage wash pretreatment process. Each stage targets a specific part of surface preparation — cleaning, rinsing, conversion coating, and final rinse stages work together to prepare the metal surface for corrosion resistance, coating adhesion, and salt spray performance. Phosphating in particular creates a microscopic crystalline layer on the metal surface that gives the subsequent coating something to mechanically key into, well beyond what a simple clean surface alone would provide.
This pretreatment stage is fully integrated with our in-house coating operations rather than run as a separate outsourced step. Parts move directly from pretreatment into powder coating or painting without being handled by an outside vendor in between, which reduces both lead time and the risk of contamination or handling damage that can occur when parts travel between separate facilities.
Because pretreatment quality directly determines coating lifespan, this stage is treated as a non-negotiable part of our finishing process rather than an optional add-on — every part that goes through our coating line passes through pretreatment first, regardless of the substrate or coating type being applied.
